Valkyries are an ariel, non-magical species. They have the bodies of humans, along with a giant pair of eagles' wings emerging from their back below their shoulder blades. The wings are between 7 to 8 feet in length. They come in a variety of skin colors and hair types. Male valkyries and female valkyries on average are 5'9'' and 5'4'' (1.76/1.63 m) tall. Valkyries have an average lifespan of 75-85 years. They typically reach maturation around 14 and are considered an adult at 16. Valkyries women are fertile once a year and have pregnancies that are nine and half months. They produce 1 child per pregnancy. Valkyries women can reproduce once every two to three years. Valkyries males typically help the female raise the child and often make life-long relationships with the female with whom they share offspring.
Valkyries have the same fitness level and diet as humans.
Valkyries have hollow bones in their wings, and as a result, their wing bones are more easily broken.
Valkyries have wings that enable them to fly. Valkerie males can carry between 120 to 240 pounds (54.5/108.9 kg) while flying, depending on their fitness level. Valkyrie females can carry 80 to 200 pounds (36.3/90.7 kg) while flying, depending on their fitness level.
Valkyries are a semi-insular species. They interact with other races in commerce, trade, and socializing. However, they typically live in their own communities and neighborhoods. While they do not explicitly condemn interracial relationships and marriages, at least for men, they tend to discourage them. This is because their wings are a maternal heritage trait, and only valkyrie females can produce valkyrie babies. Valkyrie males do not produce valkyrie babies. Therefore valkyries tend to view males marrying others as losing their valkyrie heritage. While female valkyries can produce valkyrie babies with non-valkyries, the valkyrie community is someone possessive of them, seeing a non-valkyrie as stealing a valkyrie man's opportunity to continue his valkyrie heritage. Valkyries can only reproduce viable offspring with humans, dwarves, satyrs, and centaurs*.
Valkyries speak Common.
Harpy
Harpies are an aerial, magical species. They have bodies similar to humans, but with eagle talons for feet and hands, and wings coming from their arms. Their nose and mouth are slightly more protruding than typical humans. The average harpy male and female are 5'10'' and 5'6'' (1.78/1.68 m) respectively. They have a lifespan of 90 to 100 years. Harpies reach maturation at fourteen and are considered adults at sixteen. Harpy females are fertile once a year. They lay an egg every year, whether or not it is fertilized. Eggs take about five months and a half months to hatch if fertilized. Males usually stay with females to help rear children and often enter into lifelong relationships.
Harpy people's strength is about ten percent less than humans of their size, gender, and fitness level. Male harpies can only carry between 50 to 80 pounds (22.7/36.3 kg) while flying, depending on fitness levels. Female harpies can only carry 30 to 60 pounds (13.6/27.2 kg) while flying depending on fitness levels.
Harpies have hollow bones in their wings, and as a result, their wing bones are more easily broken.
Harpies have feathers instead of hair on their head, and male harpies grow tiny feathers from their faces, where beards would normally grow. They often pluck those feathers from the beard or forehead to aesthetically fit in with human, elvish, and fae populations.
Harpies can eat food similar to humans, but cannot consume dairy. They need a diet that is leaner, with higher quantities of protein. They often eat grasshoppers or other bugs to supplement the protein, without the added fat.
Harpies are an insular species. They are only comfortable interacting with non-harpies who are from the Rohuroku mountain region. They are territorial and seldom leave Rohuroku or Alhamra. Harpies can only reproduce other harpies.
Harpies speak Common and Avisian. Avisian is based on the Persian language.
Pixie
Pixies are an aerial, magical species. They have bodies similar to elves, with skin and hair colors of various shades of green and brown. They have butterfly, moth, or dragonfly wings. The average pixie male and female are 6'' and 5'' (15.24/12.7 cm) respectively. They have a lifespan of 35 to 40 years. Pixies reach maturation at seven and are considered adults at eight. Pixie females ovulate four times a year. They only have one kid at a time and are pregnant for three and a half months. They can only produce one child every one to two years. Males sometimes stay with females to help rear children, and occasionally enter into lifelong relationships.
Pixie males can lift an average of 7 to 10 pounds (3.2/4.5 kg) depending on fitness level, and pixie females can lift between 5 to 8 pounds (2.3/3.6 kg) depending on fitness level.
Pixies are omnivorous. They eat vegetables, fruit, nectar, sap, insects, and meat. They can eat dairy but are lactose intolerant.
Pixies are natural practitioners of wind magic.
Pixies live apart from typical societies. They are not as intelligent as other races and have the reasoning skills and intelligence of a three-year-old. They have primitive communities and primitive structures for living and dwelling. Other species and governments generally leave them alone, unless the non-pixies want to build structures where a pixie community is located, and then they capture them and relocate them. Pixies can only reproduce viable offspring with humans, elves, drow, and druids**.
Pixies speak broken elvish or druidic.
*Pegasus-Centaurs
Pegasus-Centaurs are the result of a valkyrie mother and centaur father or from a pegasus-centaur mother and centaur, valkyrie, or human father. They have centaur bodies with eagle wings that are larger than valkyrie wings [between 15 to 16 feet (4.58/4.88 m) in length] and come from the centaur instead of human body. Pegasus-Centaurs males can carry about 180 to 300 pounds (81.6/136.1 kg) depending on fitness level. Pegasus-Centaur females can carry about 140 to 260 pounds (63.5/117.9 kg) when flying.
While pegasus-centaurs are rare, there is a small community of them in Gattenwood.
**Changelings
Changelings are exceedingly rare. They the result of a human, elf, drow, or druid mother and pixie father. Pixie mothers cannot carry human, elf, drow, or druid children. They will miscarry. Changelings are typically the results of male pixies raping unsuspecting normal-sized women, typically while bending over while bathing or otherwise unclothed. Often the women will not realize they have been raped but simply feel a small poking sensation. This has led to these women being confused if they produce a changeling child, instead of a normal child, leading them to claim their child was switched out for some other child. With time, people began to understand where these strange children came from, but the term changeling has persisted for this crossbreed.
Changeling males and females are on average 3'6'' and 3'2'' (1.07/.97 m) respectively. They have butterfly, moth, or dragonfly wings. They reach maturation at about 12 to 15, depending on which race they are cross-bred with. They have a lifespan of 60 to 120 years depending on which race they are cross-bred with as well (humans being on the shorter end for both maturation and life expectancy, elves being on the top end). Changelings are infertile.
