Curfew Laws

While there is a curfew from essentially 1 am to 4 am (some cities have a 12 am-4am curfew), the curfew does not prohibit working during those times. It only prohibits traveling on the streets. People can work during the hours of 1 am (or 12 am) to 4 am, as long as they arrive at their job at or before curfew, and leave at or after. This also includes frequenting businesses. Someone can visit a place of business, such as a brothel, spa, bath house, etc, during these times, as long as they arrive at or before the start of curfew, and leave at or after the end of curfew.

If people are found on the streets during the hours of curfew, they must have a pass granting them a curfew exemption. Curfew exemptions are generally only granted to guards or officials, even if off-duty, or to people whose jobs may necessitate curfew exemptions (such as a milk delivery person). People without papers cannot apply for curfew exemptions.

People found on the streets during curfew hours are arrested and searched. If they do not match any wanted poster or description, and they are not holding anything stolen or suspicious, they will be issued a fine of one bronze. They will be held until they either produce the bronze or a family member or friend pays that bronze for them. If they or a person on their behalf has not produced a bronze within thirty-six hours of the arrest, they will be put to work at a state facility, until the fine is paid off (usually only two or three days of hard labor). Someone can come and pay off that fine at any point during their confinement. After that, the person is released.

For every five times a person is arrested for curfew (in that particular city), that fine goes up by one silver in cost, with a maximum penalty of five gold. Curfew violation is considered a misdemeanor offense. All curfew violation infractions are kept by local governance, and not shared with other locales or broader government institutions. Warrants are not issued for curfew violation, unless other criminal activities are discovered while under arrest.

It is to be noted that curfew exemptions only apply within the city, or sometimes suburbs outside the city. People are not arrested for wandering around the countryside or forest between curfew hours.
