Archaic Magic Classes

Great Wizard/Wizardess

Great wizards/wizardesses are an advanced form of wizards. They use mainly magical attacks, but can also have some proficiency in certain weapons. They are capable of writing their own spells or altering existing spells. They must speak at least two fae languages to an advanced level, and be able to combine at least two languages in a single spell. They also must have either created a spell that revolutionizes the existing knowledge of spellwriting or have alternatively created or designed an original magical object or weapon. They must have their own magic for the elemental fae language in which they are proficient. They may utilize gems for other forms of magic that they do not naturally have. Being a great wizard/wizardess does not require a degree or apprenticeship, however, it is still not a self-applied title. Great wizard/wizardess is a title that is applied when at least two fellow great wizards/wizardesses formally refer to an individual as a "Great," or at least five regular wizards formally refer to someone as a "Great." Wizards/wizardesses get their own 'Wizard's Name' to use as a title and to mark any spells they have originated.

Wizard's/Wizardess's Apprentices are magic users who study under Great Wizards/Wizardesses. Apprentices, while technically the role of a student, are seen as very prestigious roles. Great Wizards/Wizardesses do not bestow this title upon anyone lightly, and therefore the title is highly sought after in the wizarding/mage community. These apprentices typically have the skills of a regular wizard or a mage. Apprentices often accompany their Masters as subordinates on quests or may be charged with overseeing or guarding something of great value to their master. Apprentices are often imparted special knowledge orally by the Great Wizard/Wizardess which cannot be found in books. Apprenticeships can last anywhere between five to twelve years. Apprentices may utilize gems or have magic naturally. Being an apprentice does not require a degree, but does require a formal offer from a Great Wizard/Wizardess to be his/her apprentice.

Enchanter/Enchantress

Enchanters/enchantresses are magic users who are able to transform themselves or others either naturally or with glyphs/runes. They may also, alternatively, apply a curse that affects a person's physical capabilities, other than transformation, or in addition to transformation. These effects of magic that transform a person or alter their physical capabilities are known as enchantments. Enchanters/enchantresses are usually able to perform enchantment by either tying an object to their subject, branding or tattooing their subject, or intuitively applying a temporary transformation. Enchanters/enchantresses are often lunar faes, as lunar magic is the only magic able to accomplish transformations. However, non-lunar fae may also have had that term applied to them if they inflicted the transformations onto lunar fae, embedded or attached manesten to the glyphs causing the transformation, or if they specialized in enchantments that affected a person's physical capabilities in ways other than transformations. Enchanters/enchantresses may utilize gems or have magic naturally. Being an enchanter/enchantress does not require a degree, and is often applied to any person who has inflicted a long-lasting enchantment on two or more people.

Glyph/runekeepers are magic users who know how to write magic glyphs or rudimentary magic spells. Glyph/runekeepers are able to apply multiple sets of glyphs or basic spells to accomplish a more sophisticated task, such as a major attack, setting a trap, performing a series of functions, etc. Because of this, Glyph/runekeepers often keep pre-written glyph-sets or basic spells to rapidly apply the series of spells when needed. Glyph/runekeepers can either have their own magic or utilize magic gems. Being a glyph/runekeeper does not require a degree or apprenticeship.

Glyph/Runesmith

Glyph/runesmiths are people who know how to write magic glyphs or rudimentary magic spells and are skilled at either carpentry, carving, etching, or forging. Glyph/runesmiths are often employed to design and then install glyphs/rudimentary spells in an area or on an object to accomplish certain functions. Glyph/runesmiths are unique from individuals who forge/carve magic items because they do not use prewritten spells. Glyph/runesmiths, like glyph/runekeepers know how to apply a series of glyph sets to accomplish the intended function. They can have their own magic or employ the use of magic gems. Being a glyph/runesmith does not require a degree but does require an apprenticeship in their skilled labor of choice.

Thaumaturgists are persons who possess and are exceptionally adept at using an enchanted weapon or object. Thaumaturigists may have acquired this enchanted weapon or object in a variety of ways, such as purchase, discovery, forceful acquisition, etc, however, they may not be the creator of that enchanted object or weapon. Thaumaturgists often do not naturally possess magic themselves, but may also be natural magic users of low to moderate skill. If they do possess magic or have magic knowledge of some capacity, their enchanted object/weapon and their skilled use of that weapon outshines whatever magic capabilities they personally have. While some magic users look down on thaumaturgists as relying on a magic object/weapon to bolster their abilities, it is also widely (and sometimes reluctantly) acknowledged that they are still formidable with their object/weapon and are also more capable with that object/weapon than ordinary people or even other magic users would be with that object/weapon. Being a thaumaturgist does not require a degree or apprenticeship.

Telepath/Shifter

Shifters are magic users who have natural lunar magic. Natural lunar magic allows the person to execute instantaneous, short-distance teleportation. They can also phase through solid matter at will. Shifters are typically practiced enough at shifting and phasing to employ these tactics seamlessly in everyday life and/or combat. combine both methods of fighting for optimal combat finesse. Telepath is a term applied to those with telepathy, or the ability to hear the thoughts that people are currently thinking as well as speak directly into people's minds. Telepathy is a trait passed down through maternal heritage, originating from the lunar fae.

Necromancers/Necromanstresses are an archaic form of magic-user that is no longer commonly recognized. They are magic users who work with the dead. This is typically done through corpse or skeletal manipulation. Corpse or skeletal manipulation is done through the intuitive use of either wind or earth magic. Water magic can be also employed, but only for underwater corpses/skeletons. Magic runes/glyphs can also be used to aid in the corpse or skeletal manipulation, but cannot be relied on entirely. In order to be considered a necromancer/necromanstress, someone has to be able to manipulate more than one corpse at a time. Because of the reliance on intuitive magic for manipulation, necromancy requires years and years of practice to be able to maintain for a substantial amount of time. Due to the time commitment, difficulty, and limited functionality, necromancy has fallen entirely out of common practice and is generally not recognized.

It is to be noted that certain wizards/wizardesses or sorcerers/sorceresses can also engage in corpse/skeletal manipulation, but are not considered necromancers/necromanstresses unless they can manipulate more than one corpse simultaneously for a substantial period of time. It is also to be noted, corpse/skeletal manipulation is not reviving or bringing back the deceased in an undead state, but merely using magic to manipulate a dead body similar to how a puppeteer would animate a puppet.

Someone can also be considered a necromancer/necromanstress when they draw upon multiple spirits/wraiths to aid in their magic use. If they just utilize one spirit/wraith, they are only a sorcerer/sorceress.

No degree or apprenticeship is required to call oneself a necromancer/ necromanstress.
